Washington, D.C. Today-- U.S. Rep. Rubén Hinojosa will be recognized tonight at the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) National Conference, Congressional Reception “as a champion in our Latino community”.
SHPE National President, Diana Gomez, added, “We also want to honor your consistent role at the forefront of Latino issues, not only in education and labor, but all Latino issues such as immigration, health, and foreign affairs”.
The SHPE organization is committed to increasing opportunities and recognition for Hispanics in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields by ensuring the success of its student members and professionals.
“I am honored to be recognized by the SHPE organization tonight. SHPE has clearly proven that providing avenues for higher education for our youth, results in highly educated and accomplished professional Latinos in our communities”, said Hinojosa.
SHPE has an active student chapter at The University of Texas-Pan American in which their members participate in and assist each year with HESTEC (Hispanic Engineering, Science and Technology Program).
The Congressional Reception is being co-hosted by SHPE and the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute. It will begin at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 28, 2009, Rayburn Building, B 338 & 339, Washington, D.C. 20515.
