Congressmen to discuss the importance of science literacy at Hispanic Engineering Science and Technology Week
Washington, DC (September 24, 2007) – On Monday, September 24, Congressman Rubén Hinojosa will participate in a roundtable discussion with several members of Congress to kick off the sixth-annual Hispanic Engineering Science and Technology Week (HESTEC). The Congressmen will be joined by government and industry leaders including Shell Oil President John Hofmeister to explore ways to encourage more Hispanics to enter technological fields and ensure America’s future competitiveness. This year’s Congressional Roundtable will be moderated by John Quiñones from ABC News and will be webcast at www.hestec.org. A press availability will follow the event.
Congressman Hinojosa and the University of Texas Pan-American founded HESTEC to serve as a catalyst to increase the number of Hispanic students pursuing careers in science, technology, and engineering. The week’s events include workshops, motivational speakers, celebrities, and interactive activities that attract over 30,000 participants each year.
