Washington, DC-Today-Congressman Rubén Hinojosa (TX-15) will be in McAllen to announce the winners of the 2011 Artistic Discovery Congressional Art Competition for the Texas’ 15th Congressional District. The winners will be announced at a special reception held Friday, May 6, 2011 at 2:00 pm at the Art Village 800 N. Main, Bldg. A, McAllen, Texas. Artistic Discovery is a national art competition open to high school students throughout the United States and is coordinated by Members of the U.S. House of Representatives.
“This competition provides a great forum for students to showcase their talents and for schools to highlight their art departments and school districts”, said Rep. Hinojosa. “All of the entries this year were exceptional and I congratulate all of the very talented students who participated in the competition.”

High School students from throughout District 15 submitted 26 entries for the annual competition. A total of 12 high schools from Harlingen South to Three Rivers are participating.

Winning entries will be displayed for one year as part of the national exhibition in the House of Representatives’ Cannon Tunnel leading to the U.S. Capitol. The winner in the 15th Congressional District will be flown to the Washington D.C. area courtesy of Southwest Airlines to see his/her work on display. The winner will also receive a scholarship to the Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, Georgia.
