CONGRESSMAN RUBÉN HINOJOSA TO PRESENT $6 MILLION CEREMONIAL "CHECK" FROM FEDERAL GRANT TO THE BORDER WORKFORCE ALLIANCE IN MCALLEN
Congressman Rubén Hinojosa (D-TX-15) will present a $6 Million check from a federal grant award to the Border Workforce Alliance (BWA) at 11:30 a.m. Thursday August 23, 2012 at the Workforce Solutions Corporate Offices at 3101 W. Business 83, McAllen, Texas.
The grant funding comes from the Growing Regional Opportunity for the Workforce (GROW) grant awarded by the U.S. Department of Labor to a consortium of five Workforce Investment Boards (WIBs) in our region, spanning from El Paso to Brownsville, Texas.
"The GROW initiative will assist lower-skilled border residents who often lack basic education attainment and English proficiency to access workforce training and educational opportunities that lead to good jobs and careers," said U.S. Rep. Hinojosa.
The Border Workforce Alliance is one of 26 grantees nationwide and the sole grantee in Texas.
Congressman Hinojosa will present the check to Workforce Solutions CEO and Project-lead of the BWA Yvonne "Bonnie" Gonzalez.
Congressman Hinojosa added, "I congratulate my friend and CEO of Workforce Solutions Bonnie Gonzalez for her steadfast support and dedication to seeing this grant through from beginning to end. We are united in bringing better opportunities to our residents along the Texas border."
